Spelling Matters: To Too Two
I looked at the spelling of there/their/they’re in a previous Tips Tuesday post.
Now I’d like to share some examples of another set of words that are often mis-spelt or used incorrectly: ‘to, too and two’
Remember, your website is your ‘shop window’ for potential customers and they can instantly be put off if your site is peppered with incorrect spellings and bad grammar.
Let’s have a look at ‘to, too and two’ – these are so often wrongly used.
Using To
As before, I’ll show you their usage through some simple sentences. The word ‘to’ is used mainly as an indication of movement from one point to another, also it often precedes a verb (an action word) for instance:-
- I’m going to the library.
- I need to go shopping.
- We went on holiday to Italy.
Using Too
The word ‘too’ should be thought of as an emphasis or can often be put in place of ‘also/’as well as’. For example;-
- Can I come too?
- He wanted all the cakes too!
- It really was too expensive!
Using Two
Possibly, the easier to get right is the third in this trio – the word ‘two’ which we all know as a number value.
- The contract was for two years.
- His business had expanded in the last two years.
- Have you planned ahead for the next two years?
Hopefully, these tips will help to present the best ‘shop window’ for visitors to your site and enable you to remember these two spelling tips too!
