Tips Tuesday – Match Messages to Audience

Match Messages to Audience

Let’s look at audience and our writing skills for instance.

Newcomers to your site are likely to be there because they need to learn more about something – it might be a completely new subject to them, so how can this best be presented for maximum benefit?

Think about things your customers need to know first – would this be more accessible as an ‘at a glance’ format, maybe use of bullet points to draw attention to the most important items, or a brief outline of what you aim to help them achieve?  Make sure that your written presentation, language and content is easy to access and customer friendly!

Good practice in schools is also good in business too; how many times are teachers advised to ‘break tasks up into manageable pieces of information!’

It’s so important in our written presentation to convey a clear message that engages our audience – they need to quickly know what’s in it for them and why they should be following your advice/suggestions/information.

Don’t forget, you can always follow the AIDA format (Attention-Interest-Desire-Action) if you are trying to write a piece that needs to inspire action in your readers.

If you need help, contact Dawn and we can see if you need to brush up on your writing skills!
