Last night I ran a seminar Social Media: Your Questions Answered and (as usual) thoroughly enjoyed myself. Roffey Park is a stunning venue and everyone there is friendly and helpful. I know that’s how it should be, but it really makes a difference when it actually happens. Wonderful!
A great group of people came along – thank you to you all. And especially, thanks for asking the questions. I think we helped each other and I know there were a few ‘aha’ moments along the way: from understanding what a blog really can be to realising Google Analytics is more than a weekly email summary.
I remember mentioning TED talks – highly recommended. Here’s one on Copyright Maths (thanks to @loudmouthman for Tweeting that one). Not quite the copyright we were talking about, but an entertaining 5 minutes.
I also talked improving your online presence.
If you want to try blogging, go to www.wordpress.com (I think I said .org – always get them mixed up!) and start a free blog. I suggest you try blogging for 6 weeks. You can make your blog private whilst you practise and see if you like it. A great (and free) way to start.
Why the spider picture? well, you had to be there! Ask me for an invite to the next one.
If you attended, please let me know what you thought of the event. Whether you attended or not, maybe you’d like to suggest other topics I could talk about.

Another suggestion you made as well as many others Dawn, commenting on a blog post. So here I am- commenting!
It was a great seminar last night and had me in a train of thought for the rest of the evening, so much so, I couldn’t sleep!
What you made me realise is that we are all experts in our fields, although I do assume everyone I meet will know what I’m talking about when we are discussing business, and it is worth blogging about it because the content I have to say will/is valuable to someone else.
Thanks for opening my eyes! Look forward to the next one.
Thanks Dawn for a very informative evening and a great way to meet fellow small business owners.
Thanks Stacey & Chris – good to see you both there.
Nice to know I didn’t send you to sleep Stacey
Great event Dawn. Love the idea of using video on my website which I am going to try to implement very soon.
Go for it Andrew. Keep videos really short – easier to do well & that’s what people want online. Using slides and screenshots works well too if you’re explaining something technical.
The course was really interesting, thanks Dawn for putting it on! Definately worth coming to, you covered vital areas of social media, and were open to our many questions! I’m looking forwards to the next one.
Hello Dawn. Thoroughly enjoyed the session this week. Have already started asking for clients to give me a video testimonial. I just need to know what to do with them next and how to get them on my website. Would love to attend the next one you do. ps lovely head shot of you!!
Hi Tamara and Debbie – I’ll make sure you get an invite to the next one. Debbie if you need help with the video, just let me know and the headshot was by this wonderful portrait photographer.
